Great tips for washing and caring for organic baby clothes

Great tips for washing and caring for organic baby clothes

Being careful about what you put on your baby’s skin is an obvious thing to do. That’s why choosing organic baby clothes is a great decision. After all, we know that mass-produced, fast-fashion fabrics are full of toxic chemicals. These chemicals are embedded into the clothes during each stage of production including growing, processing and manufacture. On the other hand, organic baby clothes are both chemical-free and are produced with a much smaller impact on the environment.
Now that you’ve bought your organic clothes, here’s a few great tips for washing and caring for them.

Washing and Drying Organic Baby Clothes Safely

Firstly, because organic clothes aren’t chemically treated to prevent shrinkage, you need to use a low temperature wash. A 40C cycle is best. Secondly, choose an eco-friendly detergent. The main-stream stuff is full of harmful chemicals. This can be bad for your baby or child’s skin plus it can quickly degrade your clothes. Lastly,  organic clothes should be air-dried. This helps to to avoid shrinkage. However,  to speed things up, try using an air-only cycle on your tumble dryer.

Eco-friendly ways to remove stains

If your organic kids become stained, there’s no need to panic! Besides using an eco-friendly stain remover, there are a few more tricks to learn.
A simple way to tackle food or drink stains is to pour boiling water over the affected area. Obviously, avoid wetting the whole garment as this may cause shrinkage. For oil-based or stubborn stains, sprinkle baking powder over the stain and let it soak in. Then, simply brush the powder off taking most of the stain with it. Next, apply a little eco-friendly soap or stain remover and leave it to soak in lukewarm water.  Finally, finish with a gentle cycle in the washing machine and it should all be gone.
For really tough stains, look for an eco-friendly stain remover designed for organic cottons.

Washing organic cotton kids and baby clothes with other items?

We advise to always wash organic clothes separately. Non-organic clothes may have harmful chemicals, including pesticides, on them and this may contaminate the whole wash.
Spending a little extra time caring for organic clothes will make them last a lot longer. They’ll also be kinder and safer for your little ones. Ultimately, getting into a harm-free wash routine will be better for them and the environment.
