How are Organic Kids Clothes Sustainable?

How are Organic Kids Clothes Sustainable

Here at Elves, we talk a lot about sustainable kid’s clothes. For us, sustainability refers to an environmental and ethical standard. Moreover, adhering to sustainable standards, we believe, is a moral obligation that we should all try to follow. Today, we see most industries using the term ‘sustainability’. But what does sustainability mean for kid’s clothes online and what makes organic kid’s clothes sustainable?

What is Sustainability?

First, we need to understand exactly what sustainability means. Essentially, sustainability means acknowledging that the world’s resources are finite. Wikipedia offers a definition as ‘it (sustainability) refers generally to the capacity for the biosphere and human civilization to co-exist.’ So, sustainability means more than ‘saving the planet’, it also suggests human life can flourish too but only if we strike a balance. Indeed, recognition of this, and working towards a sustainable world, is a relatively new concept. It’s generally acknowledged that awareness of sustainability on a global level was kicked off with the publication of the Brundtland Report in 1987.  Fortunately, things are changing. Awareness of the importance and necessity for sustainability is improving.

What are sustainable kid’s clothes?

Sustainable kid’s clothes are clothes that are made without harming the environment. Furthermore, the resources used, such as cotton, hemp, linen, wool, and silk, are all sustainable resources. On the other hand, synthetic products like nylon and polyester, rely on finite resources such as petroleum for their production. Rest assured, when buying organic kid’s clothes from Elves, every item will have passed our own high standard for sustainability.

Eco-friendly means meeting high standards

All of our organic kid’s clothes are made in accordance with strict organic agricultural standards. This means renewable sources, no artificial pesticides or fertilizers, and fair wages and working conditions for all workers. This is a complete rejection of mass-market, fast-fashion agricultural techniques that wreak havoc on our environment, and health.

At Elves in the Wardrobe, we are keen to contribute to a positive change. By only buying sustainable kid’s clothes, you too can make a difference.
